Watkins to jump from sinking Leeds ship?
Despite a lacklustre season scoring only 5 tries in 21 appearances and severely under-performing in a flailing Rhinos side, Kallum Watkins can still be considered one of the best young centres in Rugby League. However, it’s growing increasingly likely that the 25-year old will be crossing the Pennines in 2017.
With Joel Moon being linked with a move to St Helens, and Zak Hardaker now leaving for Penrith, Watkins’ could be playing for Warrington next year. With 5 Grand Final wins, 2 Challenge Cups and a World Club Challenge already to his name, he has been highly sought after with several NRL clubs expressing their interest in recent years. But it looks like Watkins want’s to remain in Super League for the time being.
After signing a 5 year contract at the back end of 2014, it’s likely a massive transfer fee will be paid to the Rhinos is the move happens. With Wire already close to the cap also, it’s likely one or several of their bigger name players may have to make way.
