Every game of the 2021 Rugby League World Cup will be broadcasted live on the BBC.
The majority of the matches, around 16 of the 31 of them will be shown on either BBC One or BBC Two. Whilst the rest of the games will be shown on the Red button and Online. Jon Dutton, England’s 2021 World Cup bid leader said, “This is a very significant moment for the sport, It will increase visibility and profile for the tournament.”
The BBC is already about to broadcast this years tournament which will be held in Papua New Guinea, Australia and New Zealand.
Dave Woods also said, “It is a chance to show a diverse audience what a great sport rugby league is.” He also went on to add, ” I feel privileged to play a small part in maximizing the BBC’s coverage across all outlets.”
It is certainly good to see the BBC doing a lot to spread word and awareness for Rugby League, both nationally and internationally. Because this year for the first time ever, BBC Sport will be showing a match from every round of the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup. Also already there are over 50 commentaries a year on BBC Radio 5 Live from the Challenge Cup, Super League and England internationals. This also adds to over 40 weeks of coverage on TV, with the likes of the Super League Show.
A great move by the BBC.
