Ladies and gents, the new Super League season is almost upon us following the lengthy off season that has left many forced to tune into other sports.
The excitement has mounted to a point where the first match between St Helens and Leeds Rhinos should appeal to any viewer.
An interesting way to kick start proceedings but first, let’s look back at previous pulsating clashes that put Super League into motion, barring the World Club Challenge.
5 – Leeds Rhinos 20-12 Hull Kingston Rovers (2008)
During the period where the World Club Challenge had to be accommodated, Leeds Rhinos hosted Hull Kingston Rovers in the stand alone fixture in 2008.
What would be another superb season for the Rhinos, they started off in difficult fashion as the big spending Robins were close to a shock victory.
The visitors led 12-4 following a race from Jake Webster had initially cancelled out Scott Donald’s early touchdown.
However, never say die as the ‘then’ Champions fought back with two tries from Lee Smith before Danny McGuire’s late effort was the icing on the cake.
Perhaps a flattering score for Leeds in the end but it was match they truly deserved.
Their sheer quality and experience saw them home against a club who would later be awarded ‘club of the year’ by the RFL.
The match itself was a fiery affair that could have gone either way and one worthy of recognition.
