After a successful pre season with wins over the Sheffield Eagles and Leeds Rhinos , Doncaster will be looking to head back up to the Championship, however it will be a real challenge along the way.
After watching all three of the Dons pre season games it is assured that they are in safe hands with ex Batley head coach Gary Thornton and with some very experienced players in their ranks they are not to be ruled out for promotion.
Players to watch!!
Possibly one of the stand out players in all three pre-season games the Super League veteran has brought a lot of experience to the Doncaster squad and his strength and experience of the game helped the Dons to wins against Leeds and Sheffield Eagles respectively. Having played in the Super League he knows the game inside out and will be vital to their success in League 1 this season and possibly the most experienced player in League 1 overall.
Another name familiar with super league fans in particular Wigan fans , well where do I start with “Feka”. An absolute mountain of a player he has made over 140 appearances for the 2016 Super League champions his brute strength as a prop is what the Dons need in their squad someone with experience who know what it is like to win silverware. As well as playing in Super League he has also represented New Zealand and Samoa on International duties. His experience along with Thackray could prove vital in the Dons fight for promotion.
Who are their challenges?
The obvious title favourites for League 1 are Toronto Wolfpack who have signed a number of NRL and Super League stars including Fuifui Moimoi and Craig Hall. With ex Leigh coach Paul Rowley leading the way they will storm past all their opposition and at 1/12 (Sky Bet) they are clear favourites for the League 1 title.
Their next set of challenges for the title are Cumbrian team Barrow , who last season beat the Dons in the semi final in 2016 to keep the Dons in league 1. They too have had a brilliant pre season just like the Dons and are just 10/1 to win the league outright.
My Prediction for Doncaster in League 1 is third place just missing out on the promotion final , however I do think that they will get to the other promotion final and getting revenge on Barrow for last years defeat and thus being promoted back to the Kingston Press championship.
Leave your thoughts below on how you think the Dons will get on next season.
