Rumours are gathering down under that Gold Coast Titans want to sign one of St.Helens’ prized possessions, Joe Greenwood.
Respectable Australian journalist Barry Toohey, has claimed that the Titans have agreed terms with the second rower. But more recently, he posted on Twitter that Saints want to sign former Catalan Dragon Zeb Taia in return. This would be a like for like replacement for Greenwood.
According to reports down under, the swap deal would took place for this season but it is more likely to be a deal for 2018.
Saints boss Kieron Cunningham spoke of the rumours in the week saying that he’s “not surprised” that the Titans want Greenwood:
“It doesn’t surprise me if the Titans are interested. Joe is an up-and-coming future England international and if I was in the NRL and had pots of money, I would be looking at all the best English talent myself”.
Cunningham also said that Greenwood recruited a new manager last year and said that the move is largely down to the manager rather than the player.
Former Saddleworth Rangers junior Greenwood, who made his debut for saints in 2012, is in his final year of his current contracts and St.Helens have reportedly opened talks over a new deal.
The 23 year old is highly rated by Saints and is tipped to be a future international. He has scored 26 tries in 76 appearances in the red vee.
