Last week saw the big boys back in town but week two immediately sees some take a back seat as our “bigger brothers” from down under are over for a third shot at the World Club Series.
Sky Sports will be kept extremely busy but hopefully it’ll all be worth out as four mouth-watering clashes await our screens.
Huddersfield Giants Vs Salford Red Devils
First up is a meeting between two clubs who aren’t a fan of “the easy way” in Huddersfield Giants and Salford Red Devils.
Both clubs survived relegated by the skin of their teeth last season and will no doubt hope 2017 will be a very different story.
Personnel and the only change for the Giants is that Tom Symonds misses out as Sam Rapira returns to the squad.
Similar stuff for the visitors as Josh Wood drops out in place of Ryan Lannon.
A tough game to call, despite the fact both started fairly differently but the Giants should be slight favourites heading into this one.
They’ll be full of confidence for this one; however, they must start well, something that ultimately cost their opposition in week one.
Danny Brough and Ryan Brierley’s combination obviously is crucial but its whether their squad can sustain periods of pressure for a longer time.
Their signings are talented but week one is always a funny one, now Salford arrive in town and will put their contribution to the test to see whether the former Bulls group are up to the tougher challenge.
Salford have a tough squad but haven’t made much progress from last season, which was evident against Wigan.
A long way to go and their backs look strong; no doubt the battle between Jermaine McGillvary and Justin Carney will be exciting.
Many more across the field possess plenty of talent but Salford really need to develop some consistency in their form.
On the night though, backed by their home crowd, longer turn around and a settled combination of pivots in Brough, Brierley and Lee Gaskell, the Giants should edge it but a Salford win wouldn’t be a shock.
