Welcome to the new weekly article where we go over our predictions for the upcoming NRL fixtures this week its round 4 with some brilliant matches coming up including a Sydney Derby.
Rabbitohs vs Roosters
Jacob Brown: Roosters 24-20
The biggest derby in the NRL is back with two of the leagues founding teams the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Roosters prepare to go head to head at the ANZ stadium. Both teams are in amazing form with Souths picking up wins against Manly and Newcastle in the last two rounds whilst the Roosters have won all their games so far against the Bulldogs , Panthers and Titans.
Mitchell Pierce has been one of the stand out players so far for the Roosters and so has Daniel Tupuo. But the Rabbitohs will continue to struggle without Greg Inglis after he tore his ACL in round one. George Burgess has also been suspended for two matches after a flying elbow on Mitchell Barnett.
Prediction: South Sydney 8 – Roosters 22
Panthers vs Knights
JB: Panthers 30-16
Both teams that have struggled so far this season having both lost two matches each , the Panthers lost their opener to the Dragons 42-10 and picked up their only win against the Tigers in round 2. Meanwhile the Newcastle Knights have shocked footy fans by showing determination and qualities that the team had in the early years of the NRL. However both teams defences need improving on especially the Panthers.
Prediction: Penrith Panthers 4 – Knights 12
Broncos vs Raiders
JB: Broncos 18-16
Two sides that have been tipped to win the premiership this year , and both sides have got off to poor starts. Canberra have gained just the one victory against the Wests Tigers on Sunday and will be looking to get back to winning ways and the form that saw them finish second in the ladder last season.
Meanwhile the Broncos under leadership of Wayne Bennett will be looking to bounce back from two straight defeats one of which was a one point loss to the North Queensland Cowboys. The usual suspects Sam Thaiday and Corey Oats will play a massive part in getting the Broncos back to form and this match could be a thriller and possibly game of the round.
Prediction: Broncos 11- Raiders 10 (After Golden Point)
Sea Eagles vs Bulldogs
JB: Sea Eagles 38-16
Round 4 see’s Manly take on the Bulldogs in Lottoland Stadium , in what could be a very heated match. The bulldogs picked up their first victory of the season last week against the Warriors. Meanwhile Manly shocked all the pundits (and fans) by beating the 2015 premiers the North Queensland Cowboys 30-8. The star player in that match by far was winger Tom Trbojevic who collected a kick from JT and ran 80 metres up field to score the try of the week.
The bulldogs have a lot experience within their ranks to pull off the win however their defensive back line has struggled in recent times and James Graham will be looking to hopefully guide them to another win.
Prediction: Sea Eagles 16 – Bulldogs 22
Eels vs Sharks
JB: Eels 16-14
The next match see’s the Eels take on the defending premiers the Cronulla Sharks at the ANZ Stadium. The eels are in their 70th season as a club and will be looking to win the premiership come October , they have improved their form massively over last year and are playing for points unlike last year.
The Sharks meanwhile are coming back after a four point defeat to the Dragons last week , the major issue with their team at the moment is their defence aswell as the attacking power that they had last season. With Ben Barba not in their squad due to suspension they will struggle for most of the season I think.
Prediction: Eels 8 – Dragons 6
Titans vs Cowboys
JB: Cowboys 24-10
Two the NRL’s biggest players go face to face once against as Jarrad Hayne take on Johnathan Thurston as the Titans take on the Cowboys. The Titans came from 12-0 down against the Eels last week but they are still in 14th spot sitting above the Wests Tigers and the Warriors. Gold Coast have the strength and nimbleness to get past the strong Cowboys defence but they could be out witted by JT’s brilliant kicking ability.
Prediction: Titans 0 – Cowboys 30
Wests Tigers vs Melbourne
JB: Storm 40-12
The Wests Tigers will be looking to come back after two heavy defeats to the Penrith Panthers and the Canberra Raiders. The news of head coach Jason Taylor being sacked has been controversial among other teams fans but some of the loyal Wests fans are jumping for joy.
Melbourne are another team who have won all their games so far , and where lucky to come away with the win against the Broncos last week. It was Cameron Smith who converted a goal in the 77th minute to win the match. This could be another massacre for the Tigers.
prediction: Tigers 8 – Storm 24
Dragons vs Warriors
JB: Dragons 28-18
The Warriors are heading into this game with just one win in the competition so far , they will be looking to get another against an inform Dragons side who have beaten premiership favourites Penrith and the Cronulla Sharks.
Prediction: Dragons 22 – Warriors 18
