Onto West Yorkshire now for another of Super League’s surprise packages in Wakefield Trinity RLFC.
This club have had their problems over the years but they take the word “survival” to a whole new level as they just keep on existing!
Last season though saw them become hot contenders for silverware and though they just missed out, they produced arguably their best ever season in the summer era.
Who needs millions of pounds? Wakefield have a small budget but have caused problems for all opposition in 2017 and have certainly moved on from their Million Pound Game encounter just two years ago.
Sensational stuff from Trinity, let’s look in more detail at how their season panned out.
Best Performance: Wakefield Trinity RLFC 38-6 Leeds Rhinos
Plenty to choose from but can anything better such a heavy win against eventual champions Leeds Rhinos?
Hardly and Wakefield deserved all the plaudits for this win as it demonstrated how dangerous they were in 2017.
It was a nip/tuck opening but Trinity eventually took control and ran amok at the Beaumont Legal stadium.
Tries from Joe Arundel, Ben Jones-Bishop, Scott Grix, Jacob Miller, Matty Ashurst and Bill Tupou helped Wakefield home, with them only letting Adam Cuthbertson through for Leeds’ only effort.
Their best night of 2017 and certainly a performance to build on in the forthcoming years as Trinity look set to continue on the rise.
