Completing the focus on the back line are obviously the scrum-halves.
Arguably the most important figures on a pitch, these lads have a gift for causing plenty of torment.
Below is a selection of the top five to watch out for in 2018, find out who will help orchestrate the events and who will stand out amongst others.
5 – Danny Brough
A controversial selection perhaps but coming in at fifth is Scotland International Captain and Huddersfield Giants’ Danny Brough.
Brough has had plenty of experience in the game, and though some have said he has been quiet in recent seasons, performs exceptionally when it matters most.
Despite the Giants’ recent decline, they have secured Super League survival regardless, owing to Brough’s experience that has guided them to such a relief.
Last season saw him make 27 appearances, personally scoring four tries and 61 goals plus managing 22 try assists helped them to automatic survival this time around.
So despite any off-field criticism, Brough remains an important figure in the Giants’ ranks as well as a potent player in Super League.
He may approaching the end of his career but there’s still life left in this ‘old’ dog yet and clubs should certainly remain on the alert for the danger he poses.
