Leeds Rhinos have been dealt a huge blow as Adam Cuthbertson, Stevie Ward and Jack Walker have all been ruled out of action for a number of weeks.
The trio all picked up their injuries in last week’s heavy World Club Challenge defeat to Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park, and following scans taken on their return to England, it has now been confirmed that they will face a spell on the sidelines.
Cuthbertson (fractured hand) will be out for up to 8 weeks, Ward (torn calf) will spend another 4-6 weeks off the field as his bad luck with injuries continues and 18-year old fullback Walker, who has a problem with his knee, will require a few weeks at the least before he can return.
The Rhinos were already without a number of senior players before heading Down Under to Australia, with new signing Nathaniel Peteru, Mitch Garbutt, Brett Ferres, Keith Galloway and Anthony Mullally all absent from the trip, and are now left very light in the forwards with the loss of two more key players in their pack in Cuthbertson and Ward.
Leeds say that their medical team are working with Garbutt and 19-year old prop Mikolaj Oledzki as they attempt to get them fit for Sunday’s trip to Widnes, but both face a race against time to be ready for the game at the Select Security Stadium.
Ashton Golding will likely come in for Jack Walker at full back, however Brian McDermott will have to find a solution to his forwards problem before he names what will be a much changed Leeds squad.
